Loughton came from 1-2 behind to complete a historic league and cup 🏆 double with a narrow 5-3 victory over Wanstead IV.

The first round of games ended in a 2-2 draw with Wanstead notionally ahead on board count.

  1. Kevin had some pressure in the early middle game but his initiative fizzled out to a drawn bishop vs. knight ending.
  2. Bill succumbed to a vicious kingside attack that was kick-started by an excellent exchange sacrifice from Mark.
  3. Dave and Paul agreed to a draw with almost all the pieces still on the board.
  4. Graham came under some queenside pressure, but, in true textbook fashion, launched a counterattack in the centre and his opponent crumbled under time pressure.

Loughton comfortably won the 2nd round of games, 3-1

  1. Kevin broke through on the king side winning two pawns and then a piece.
  2. Bill had some initiative but eventually a dead drawn endgame resulted.
  3. Dave won a piece in the middle game with a pawn fork and had no trouble converting.
  4. Graham and Keith had a quick draw with nearly all of the pieces being exchanged off after 5 minutes.

This has been a fantastic NCCL campaign for Loughton with 14 victories and 1 draw from the 15 matches played across the league and Finchley cup.
